Welcome to the Hydrogen Challenge!
The Hydrogen Car Challenge is an amazing, fun and engaging International Racing Champsionship. With State Finals in NSW, VIC and QLD, and with competitors from across Australia and New Zealand, the Challenge is your chance to get out of absolutely heaps of school!
Well, that's not entirely true - since the Challenge program is matched to curriculum, lots of schools are teaching it during normal class time - but it sure doesn't feel like school. At least that's what the competitors tell us - and of course, it's also open to corporate and public entries. It's for the whole community.
In fact the reason that the Challenge program was started was to give you a chance to muck around with tomorrow's essential technologies today - in a hands-on kind of way. It's our little way of helping sort out a response to climate change, the movement to alternative fuels and the momentum towards a greener environment globally.
How to Get Started
Getting involved is simple –
- Check out the details on this web site - the rules, regulations, and costs you might incur and so on - you can do this by downloading the PDF on the Rules page.
- Next, register an Expression of Interest on the Entering page, being sure to give us correct details so that we can get back to you.
- Now our administration team contacts you directly via phone or email to get a few documents signed and approved - they'll send these to you via email and ask you to email / fax them back.
- Now download ‘How to Make a Hydrogen Car Without Even Trying’ from the How-To Page ‘cause it’s time to make your car! You have a few options here
a. You are of course free to create your car any way you like - as long as it conforms to the rules, or
b. You can get a Kit which has pretty much everything you need to make your car from scratch. The kits are available for purchase or through our grants program. - In addition to making the car itself, each team must also create a 'Challenge Experience Presentation' for race day. This presentation, usually only a few minutes long, can be spoken, written, a web site, a documentary, a song – pretty much anything goes. In 2007 we even had a James Bond Action Thriller DVD called ‘Solar Spy’!
- Now that you have your car and presentation ready, you're all set to race! Come along to the closest Race Day and try to win yourself a spot in the Nationals!
